I'm a HUGE Formula 1 fan, but I've noticed that the recent changes in the sport (qualifying in particular), seem to be pandering to TV and the sponsors.
When a sport focuses more on its sponsors than on its fans, then interest in it fades.
That to me is a cultural changes - sponsors first, fans second.
I can't help but feel that we're getting Romanesque in our attitude to public opinion, and that the powers-that-be aren't listening. And I think it is just an example of what's happening in the rest of the world..politics, religion, the big corporates...
Anyway, I'll watch the European race in Germany, and see how 'gladitorial' it is...
